To customers, the most important question is how much a thatched roof costs. Unfortunately, there is no straight answer to this question. In order to answer it, we need to know how large the roof surface area is, how many dormers and chimneys there are, whether the roof construction is in need of renovation, whether roof insulation is required, etc. If you wish to receive a concrete price offer, please contact us. We are happy to visit you, where we will assess the condition of your roof and, following that, provide you with price offer after our visit.
An annual inspection of the thatched roof is important to ensure the longevity of your thatched roof, as smaller defects can be spotted and repaired immediately, thus preventing larger issues from occurring in the first place.
As our customer, you are always a step ahead of schedule, and as you know, this is not usually the case when you get urgent help from a thatching company.
Often, a change of the reed covering also necessitates a renewal of the roof construction. Sometimes this is necessary because the condition of the roof structure is poor and renovation of the roof structure is required. Sometimes it happens because the entire roof construction dies not meet modern standards. During renovation of your thatched roof, you can install skylights of the type Velux and prepare locations for the installation of photovoltaic.
You will have to agree with me that everything is flammable, depending on the strength of the fire, its temperature and the given conditions for the spread of the fire. Reed is no exception, as it is flammable as well. Reed coverings are considered to be a flammable material. However, this does not mean that a thatched roof will burn all the time. We can implement additional fire protection measures to reduce the likelihood of a thatched roof catching fire or to provide additional protection against flames spreading rapidly inside the building.
Often, customers are surprised when we ask them what type of ridge they want for their thatched roof. Sometimes, a customer is not able to select a different option for the ridge, as the building is quite old and has to remain as it is, or because local regulations don’t allow any other option.
There are even several variants for a ridge:
From reed
From heath
From Dutch tiles
From aluminium leaves
From copper leaves
A thatched roof requires maintenance, just as any other object. You will have to agree with me that well-maintained shoes last longer than neglected shoes. The same rules apply to a thatched roof.
How often and what kind of repairs a thatched roof needs depends on environmental conditions, the quality of the thatch used and the configuration of the roof. Another important factor is how professionally the reed covering was initially installed.
As with any other construction material, alternatives have been and are being developed. These processes did not stop at thatched roofs. Today you can choose the reed to cover your roof with.
Natural reed is nature on your roof. If everything is done with high quality and professionalism, this is a reliable and long-lasting roof covering for your home. Thatched roofs have been tried and tested for thousands of years.
